Sons of Levi charged with the work of the tabernacle.

Numbered one month old and above from the Levites - 22,000

Details for each of the sons of Levi's tribes and their duties in the tent.

Camp - North, South, East and West of the tent.

Number the 1st born of all the tribes of Israel 1 month and above - 22,273

God took the Levites for His own, in place of the 1st born of Israel. The excess 273, were to be ransomed with 5 shekels a piece.

Ransom money given to Aaron.

[Num 3:11-13 NASB] 11 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 12 "Now, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of every firstborn, the first issue of the womb among the sons of Israel. So the Levites shall be Mine. 13 "For all the firstborn are Mine; on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am the LORD."

In summary - there were 22,000 first born of all of Israel....there were 22,273 first born in the Levites. God took the Levites in place of all of Israel.

NOTE: I found myself irritated with the details and know that my heart would not be in the right place to carry them out. God had a specific way He wanted things done - He had everything planned down to the nuts and bolts and He gave these plans/expectations to the sons of Levi. With HEAVY penalty (DEATH) for disobeying any one of them.
