Exodus 23

v 13 - Do not mention the name of other gods, nor let them be heard from your mouth.

THOUGHT: this is how we come to accept other gods as okay. They become politically correct and "no longer dangerous" to us as we acclimate ourselves to them by discussing them.

Three feasts they were to observe:

--Feast of unleavened bread
  • 7 days
  • eat unleavened bread
  • month of Abib (the month they left Egypt
--Feast of Harvest

--Feast of Ingathering\
  • at year end
God told them He would send an angel to lead them into the place He had prepared for them. They were to obey the angel.

v23 - The angel would lead them into the land of the:
  • Amorites
  • Hittites
  • Perizzites
  • Canaanites
  • Hivites
  • Jebusites
God would utterly destroy them (each of the above)

v24 - you will not worship their gods and you will utterly destroy them

THOUGHT: it was truly about showing that God was Lord and reigned over all. He was going to use the Israelites to do it.

v 26 - there shall be no one miscarrying or barren in your land

God revealed His plan for driving out all of these people. He said He would do it little by little so that the Israelites could possess and maintain the land without being overwhelmed with too much at one time.

v 31 - boundaries would be:
Red Sea>Sea of Philistine's
Wilderness>Euphrates

Repeatedly they were warned and instructed not to let the other gods into their lives.
