Exodus 20

The 10 Commandments given for the 1st time:
  1. you shall have no other gods in my sight (before me)
  2. you shall not make idols for yourself - I am a jelous God
  3. you shall not take the name of the Lord in vain
  4. remember the sabbath to keep it holy
  5. honor your father and mother NOTE: even in time when importance placed on male, instructed to honor mother as well. Also note that male and female were being instructed to honor both mother and father
  6. you shall not murder
  7. you shall not commit adultery
  8. you shall not steal
  9. you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
  10. you shall not covet

The people recognize that it is God on the mountain and they fear Him.

Instructions are given about building an alter for sacrifice.

v 26 - they are instructed not to go up on the altar by steps lest their nakedness be exposed.THOUGHT: the altar was to be built in such a way as to avoid accidental exposure. The focus was to be on God. On PURPOSE. Contingency plans were made to avoid deflecting the attention away from Him. Today we dress predominantly to bring attention to ourselves. Whether that dress is indecent or not - still try to attract attention to selves.
